The October Assembly Meeting of the Turkish Chamber Of Shipping, took place on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
The meeting was held at the Chamber Assembly Hall under the chairmanship of Assembly President Başaran Bayrak, with the participation of the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), Fatih Karahan, as a guest.
In his speech, CBRT Governor Karahan shared evaluations on monetary policy and the macroeconomic outlook.
After his remarks, Governor Karahan answered questions from the Turkish Chamber Of Shipping assembly members.
Turkish Chamber Of Shipping Chairman Tamer Kıran also addressed the attendees, providing information about the Turkish maritime sector and evaluating international developments that closely concern the industry.
Highlighting that the Turkish economy has been severely affected by recent global economic conditions, Tamer Kıran praised the efforts of the economic administration to restore disrupted balances.
Touching on an issue of significant importance to the maritime sector, Kıran noted that as of 2025, there are 377 Turkish-owned coaster vessels between 3,000–12,000 DWT. He emphasized the importance of renewing this fleet, which dominates the Black Sea and Mediterranean basin, as its average age has reached 27 years.
Pointing out that maritime transport is undergoing technological, environmental, geopolitical, and geo-economic transformations, Kıran stressed the importance of understanding these changes well and advancing with correct strategies and policies. He stated:
“Due to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) net-zero carbon framework, a significant transformation awaits us in a world where more than 90% of existing fleets still use fossil fuels. As the maritime sector, we aim to act in alignment with our Economic Administration to achieve targeted economic goals and support the sustainable growth of our economy. I sincerely hope that our country and industry overcome this challenging period successfully and reach a strong economy.”
During the meeting, Teoman Mustafa Akyol, Chairman of the Chamber’s Education and Employment Committee, and Serdar Akdemir, Chairman of the Sustainability Committee, presented updates on their respective committees’ activities.
